Crucial FOUR’s Flake Salt contains 3 times more magnesium and 2 times more potassium than Celtic salt.*
Crucial FOUR’s Icelandic Flake salt is the world’s only artisan salt produced with 100% geothermal energy, and one of the best flake salts available. Making it the flake salt of choice for consumers looking for excellent salt made in an environmentally sustainable way.
The handmade, pyramid-like crystal salt flakes contain the flavor and taste of the Nordic region from which the raw materials come. Reykjanes, the source of the raw materials, has some of the cleanest seawater imaginable.
Our Icelandic Flake Salt making method is based on a centuries-old method practiced in Reykjanes.
To create Crucial FOUR’s Icelandic Flake Salt, hot geyser water of 206 °F (93 °C) from the hot springs of Reykjanes is used during the pre-heating, boiling, and drying processes of the salt. Geothermal energy is the sole energy source used, which means we leave a zero-carbon footprint on the environment with absolutely zero CO2 and CH4 emissions created.
Seawater is pumped to open pans where it is pre-heated until it becomes a strong brine with a salinity level of 17-20%. The brine is then boiled until white crystals appear on the surface, which then slowly fall to the bottom of the pan.
The pan is drawn and any remaining liquid is drained. The salt is then dried and put into packages.
Matt's Thoughts: This salt is world's beyond Celtic sea salt in taste and nutrient profile. It takes a little while to get used to the bigger flakes. What I do is take a pinch straight from the bag with my fingers and crush it over my food.
